Colorado is looking to pass a bill that prohibits the sale of?
I live in Colorado and have two sons, age 22 and 14. The older one finally got a phone when he was 16 because he was in several activities at school, and it just became easier for ME if he had a phone to call me for a pickup or to add things to the calendar. Two summers ago, my then 12-year-old son wanted an iPhone. I said I would not buy him one, but, since it only costs $15 to add an additional line to our service, if HE came up with the money, Id add him to our account. Wouldnt you know, HE DID IT?! He mowed lawns, did yard clean-up, sold homemade ice cream cones at the local little league games, held a rummage sale and saved every dollar he received in gifts and allowance all summer. The week before school started back up, my husband drove him to the Apple store and he bought a brand new iPhone 6. So, do I think that Colorado should have a law saying that, in spite of all his work, that boy should be told Youre not old enough and responsible enough for that phone? No, I do not. Now, do I think some parents spoil their children and buy them smartphones when theyre too young to self-regulate? Of course, but I dont think its the governments job to step into that parent-child relationship. There are plenty of dangerous things that should be regulated, but smart phones are simply a fact of life.
